Some homesellers do NOT want to hold open houses and some want as many as possible. The key to making this decision is to understand the why's: from the homeowner's perspective AND the Realtor's.

Motivation for the homeowner: give the widest possible access to potential buyers who are in the marketplace to buy a home right now.

Motivation for the Realtor: to find clients (whether buyers or sellers); it is NOT to find a buyer for the house that they're holding open.

The big win: both the Realtor and the homeowner can benefit, but it's critical that both understand their different motivation.
