This is a great question.
In other words, "if we've found an agent we like, does their brokerage really matter that much?"
Yes. It matters a lot. Not only can it mean more buyers and more money, there are certain scenarios where not having the right brokerage can be financially catastrophic.
There are 3 main reasons:
1) Brokerages are different - just like any retailer, brokerages are not the same. Is their focus on recruiting more agents? Getting more listings? Attracting buyers? As a home seller, what is most important to you?
2) Marketing and advertising reach - some brokerages have extensive histories (and enormous past-client databases to which they market) numerous offices throughout the state, country, and world. Some are merely local. Since you never know from where the right buyer will come, the broader the exposure, the better for you!
3) Worst case scenarios - sometimes a transaction goes sideways, to the point of requiring institutional or legal help. Does the brokerage have these services readily available? Unfortunately, consequences for not having adequate resources can yield horrific consequences.
Of course, finding a great agent is the first important issue, but that alone is insufficient - the right brokerage is important too!
